Transmission leak

I have a leak on my transmission that I cannot figure out how to fix.

It appears to be leaking out of where the gear selector goes into the transmission(and possibly on the other side out of the bottom of the dipstick tube but I assume that jus needs an O-ring or something).

Has anyone had this kinda leak before? I looked in my repair manual and cannot find anything about replacing a seal or removal or anything like that. Any help is appreciated!

Yes, the dipstick is an o-ring.

I would bet the shift selector is the same thing, only problem is you have to go into the tranny to get the shift lever out and fix it, as far as I know about automatics.

oh and i forgot to say it's a C-4

thanks for that...i put a new pan on her and had to get an adapter for the filler tube since the pan was for a case fill and I'm pretty sure i forgot that o-ring

as for the selector...any idea how involved that would be? I'm no transmission expert so do you think I'd be able to do it with the assistance of a Chilton manual

I have the C6 and had to do the same selector seal replacement. The guys in the parts stores call it a "shift shaft seal" and they're cheap. On the C6 I had to drop he pan to get the shaft off of the trans. It is bolted in from the inside and there was no way to do it otherwise. The seal is on the outside of the trans body but it can't be put in without first removing that shaft. I am not sure if the C4 is the same. I spent more time trying to figure it out from the outside than I did after I dropped the pan.

The truck had been sitting for a long time and I had just done a trans service and then noticed the leak. I didn't want to have to drop the pan a second time but ended up having to anyway.

So get under there and see if you can get the old seal off the shaft without having to remove the shaft. If so it's a piece of cake. If not then you're gonna have to drop the pan. I was actually able to pop the seal out of its seat but I couldn't get the old one off which meant I couldn't get the new one on.

BTW, I also had to remove the valve body once the pan was off. It turned out to be easy but when I did it I wasn't quite sure what I was getting into.
