OK,relatively new to this game so excuse my ignorance, but I wanna do right by my truck 'cause I love her!
I have a 351w with big cam & roller rockers from a 69 Torino in my '54.Daily driver,& she gets driven hard 'cause she's fast 'n'fun
Currently running on Mobil 1(last 8k ,no problems so far)as the mustang guys seem to like it.Is this kool,& if not why,& what grade/make would be best.Living here in England, choice is limited, but I don't mind importing if the benefits justify the cost.
Opinions please
Thanks.
Just about any modern oil will be more than sufficient for these motors. The 5.8 i just took out of my truck for upgrades has about 80k on it from a rebuild I did 8 years ago, it got regular old QuakerState for most of that and there is absolutely no wear on anything inside, and no gunk buildup. Regular oil changes and a Motorcraft filter are all that's required really.
Just make sure you keep ENOUGH of it in there ! You may want to look in to a product called Z-Max. It's an additive that reduces friction and dissolves carbon deposits.
Steer clear of any additives that claim to reduce friction and dissolve anything. They are ineffective and a waste of money. All you really need is a quality oil and filter. I use mobil-1 and motorcraft filters, but it's just preference.

It appears you are correct, I was taken in by the infomercials and ads. A quick search found some people touting great results, more claiming it a hoax, and mention of the FTC taking action against the makers for unsubstantiated claims. The report that they use in their ads actually found that Z-Max increased bearing corrosion. They omitted any data that was damaging from the report and basically made up claims that they cannot substansiate. It sure looked good in the ads. Thanks for the heads up- I was getting ready to waste $30. on this stuff. Not now!
Ever heard of a UOA? Used Oil Analysis. If you are truly concerned, and have an extra $20-$40 to spend every oil change, then these would benefit you and put your mind to ease. You send your old oil to a company that tells you your wear metals found in the oil.
You may find something like Castrol 0W-30 or Pennzoil 5W-30 does better, or you may find Mobil1 is the best for your specific application. It's worth it in a high horsepower engine where you want to know if the oil is holding up good.
Mobil1, I'm sure, is 'holding up' as far as viscosity goes. Any name brand synthetic isn't going to shear down. BUT, another brand may show better wear results. Just throwing it on the table.
FYI: 0W-30, 5W-30, or 10W-30, they are all the same thickness, or I shall say, within 30 weight spec, when warmed up. Also, I will add that Castrol Syntec 0W-30, the only Syntec made in Germany, is the thickest xW-30 I know of. It's practically a 40 weight. And, to put it into another perspective, you do realize a 0W-30 is going to be WAY thicker cold than a 15W-40, or even a 20W-50 is warmed up?
When it comes to synthetic, you want a 0W or 5W-xx. They aren't going to shear, and it gives better start up flow. Now, with conventionals, a 5W-30 will shear easier than a 10W-30. But, synthetics are a different game when talking about shearing.
Not really,I've just watched 'Pulp Fiction' a few times to many.Over here nowadays it's mostly Polish,Hindi,Serbian,Somali & 'Gangsta' rap style!
