I took out all the sparkplugs and drained the oil (almost 8 quarts oil and water) and the took out the starter. I tried to turn over the motor with a breakerbar and it will not move in either direction. The truck was in a rainstorm (about 10 inches fell)and after the rain stopped I tired to start it the motor turned over about a half turn and then it locked up. What do you think happened? I know it can be alot of things wrong but where would you guys start at? bent connecting rod, bent push rods, bound up timing chain?
You need to immediately drain the transmission, the differentials and repack bearings. Clean and lube the rear brakes and adjusters. Make sure the floorboards are dry under the carpet. Grease the tie rods and U joints.
took out timing chain, and crank will still not turn bent connecting rod? or the rings stuck to cyclenders? ever heard of a truck getting struck by lighting that can cause the motor to lock up I think it got hit by lighting no markes on truck tho and all the electronics still work? any thoughts
Rings maybe rusted and stuck to cylinder. Need to squirt some penetrating oil into cylinders and let them soak for a few hours. Leave the spark plugs out but disconnect the coil wire.It could cause a fire if the plug wire fired near and open plug hole.
On the other hand a rod could be so bent it has the piston wedged in the cylinder.
In your comments I assumed you engine was underwater, Is that true or not. Or were you driving in water deeper than the bumper?
sounds like the truck was just sitting parked in a rainstorm, how did it let in 2-3 qts of h2o in the crankcase, now if we're talkin a flood where the thing was under 3-4' of water then that differant
The truck was sitting in the yard with the hood half open. I guess the water puddled on the air cleaner and down the carb.I pulled the motor and found the # 8 pistion rod bent. Time for some new parts on my three year old remanufactured motor.Lesson learned dont leave your hood up in a rainstorm! Thanks for all the replies.Should have it running again in a few days!
I've never been this deep in a motor before so does a machine shop have to press the wrist pin in the connecting rod or is that something i can do my self with a press or someother way?
