I've got a 98 EB Exp (no 4x4) with air suspension. Occasionally when I go out to drive it the rear end will be all the way down to the ground. Once I start it the compressor kicks on and airs it back up and eveything is fine. I can go for a day or two, even a week and it won't happen again. Any suggestions. I'm tempted to rip out the air suspension and go conventional but I'm afraid the ride will suffer. How easy is it to switch out...what would I expect to pay if I took it to a shop to fix or have converted?
No trust me the ride wont suffer from installing springs. My Expy has springs and I know many of drivers that hate their air suspension and have had many problems with it.
I have two Expy's without air suspension and can't complain about the ride and don't miss all the problems with (leaks, torn air bags...) air suspension
I would check the relay that is located in the upper front bumper area on the pass side. Check the connectors for corrosion---you may have an intermittent connection issue there---very common for this relay to fail totally or have bad electrical connections.

About how much does it cost to convert over to springs?
My expedition has rear air ride, Sure I thought about replacing the air bags with coil springs at one point but then I asked myself why? The rear air bags keep the vehicle level! I wouldn't want the rear to be draging if it were loaded up full of people & luggage. On our recent vacation we had 5 people & the entire rear section was full of stuff! The vehicle was level the entire time. If you tow a boat or trailer the air ride is very helpfull as well.
I also have air ride on my Mark VIII, I would never convert it over. It rides nice & I think it's very easy to work on if needed.
Just my oppinion of course. Which ever way you decide to go, Eddie should have everything that you need at a very good price. (american air susspension)
