Flex Fuel Sensor!?
2000 Ranger 3.0 4WD XLT 115,000 miles
CEL has been on a couple days......paid no mind to it. It's been on before, then gone out with no known problems. On my way to work with the CEL on, truck hiccups....on the freeway doing 70mph with regular gas the last two tankfulls. Then hiccuped again a minute later, then again, getting worse everytime. Made the exit ramp, engine dies at the stop sign. Got it running, made it about a couple hundred feet and engine dies again. Will not restart. Just putters and quits. Had it towed to work, and had a fellow employee throw the scan tool on it. He says that the flex fuel sensor has a short in it. Find out through the Ford dealer( he told me to sit down) $ 648.00. Got it home the same day it died. Tried to start it for giggles, and low and behold it sputtered, then cleared itself out and idled. Had a good deal of smoke right away, but that cleared up also. Checked voltage at sensor~12.7v, checked ground at plug with ohm meter~ good. That's as far as I could go without scan tool. It has been starting , but I am gun shy to go anywhere. Even unplugged the sensor, and it still starts and idles. Ran it around the block and seems ok. CEL still on. Help!? Where do I go from here? A long post, but I want to make sure I get all the info out so I'm not repeating myself 50 times. I do appreciate the help. This forum has MUCH information to use!
I have a 99 flex fuel Mazda and would be interested in your results.
