Forget the northeast, you will be taxed to death and the winters are terrible.
What about Utah, Northern Nevada, Southeastern part of the States? Honestly there seems to be lots of possibilities. Have a great adventure.

You're answer is HERE............
South Western Missouri, if you're a blacksmith artist you may even be able to get work (booth) at Silver Dollar City. Nothing but shops like that. Metal, leather, glassblowing etc.
Hills and mountains good people, slow easy pace of life. I love it here.

The taxes here stink but the winters are nothing compared to the mountains or midwest.
There's lots of call for ornamental/architectural ironwork around here, and the $$ to pay for it.

This guy is right up the street from me.
Just be ready for some very particular clients w/ a HUGE sense of entitlement

What, you want to leave Wyoming? No state income tax! If the desert is out, then forget Rock Springs. Maybe Casper? For a lush environment try Northern Idaho. Compared to Sheridan it's not nearly as chilly. Sandpoint/Coeur d'Alene area. That's where I want to go for retirement.

Well you got a lot of good leads. Now all you have to do is research the areas you are interested in.

Portland people appreciate art and you can live on the outskirts of town, yet have all the amenities it provides!! Or, if you want something a bit larger, yet still with an appreciation for art, how about the Seattle area?? Lots of mountains, temperate weather, and trees!!
