Check back on that thread in a few days, I'll have the pics and the rest of the install details posted soon! I'm in a frenzy trying to get everything tied up here in Seattle so I can go HOME for awhile!

Vegistroke/DFA now has a tank also for the Ex's. Maybe they'll sell it seperately? IIRC, it was like $1150 for 30 gals and $1250 for 40 gals. Of course for diesel you wouldn't need the heat exchanger...

Look in bio section here for Jason's (Fordnut74) recent post about Excursion system. There was also a thread over at TDS bio section awhile back ("Excursion install - full story" - or somethin' like that!) where a couple guys had tanks built for under Ex's and posted pics. Be aware that all of those tanks have poor design for hanging, IMHO. They used brackets to suspend tank, I used steel straps (and 1/8" aluminum). The welded brackets are destined to fatigue and crack at welds - I hope no one has a catastrophic failure before they discover the problem!

I know how the OP feels. I was ready to give up on my X 6 months after I bought it. after coming here and getting some info. I tightened up the gear box a little. which helped, but it was very darty after that adjustment. then I installed the Hellwig rear sway bar. that cured all my problems I had with the handling of the X.

Did you by any chance over adjust the gear box?

Defiantly try the Helwig rear sway bar! The factory sway bar you have is in the front only so you need a rear one and that is where the Helwig comes in!

Perhaps the previous owner installed a rear sway bar because there is one there. I had read somewhere that ford started installing rear sway bars I forget what model year it was, mine is a 2003.

I had the rear sway bar from the factory on my X and upgraded to the F-350 bar because it was a direct bolt on. The F-350 bar is much thicker then the stock X bar, I noticed a difference as soon as I drove it. You may want to give it a shot it was really cheap at the Ford dealer I think around 50-75 $ with the new bushings.

Even if u have the rear sway bar, chances are it is still factory because u still have wondering. I would get rid of it and try a hellwig sway bar or a F-350 sway bar.

Ex sway=29 mm
Helwig=33mm
F350=35 mm

I think those are the correct thicknesses. I had to do tires, helwig, bilsteins, rancho stabilizer, new frt sway bar bushings to get it riding decent. Springs are next after the wallet recoves.

ChazWiz, Just a note, IMHO the Factory swaybar is not up to the task. I installed a thicker replacement Hellwig on the front with much more capable bushings and added a swaybar in the rear 02 didn't come with one and it helped significantly.

I know that we're more likely to hear more about problems, but am I the only one with a bone stock suspension Excursion that doesn't have any wander or suspension issues? I tow a 9500# trailer and try to keep my load slightly biased to the front of the trailer. It tows rock solid and I've NEVER had any kind of wandering problems. When hitched, it sits dead level and barely sits lower than when it's unhitched or unloaded. It's my understanding that the Excursion came from the factory already set up to pull at least a 10,000 pound load. Mine's also a 4x4 with a 7.3 so maybe the suspension's set up differently or the extra weight of the engine affects the weight distribution of the truck and puts more weight on the front suspension?

I once had an E250 van that wandered all over the road after buying a set of D rated tires and it was downright dangerous. After 2 days I replaced them with E rated Michelins and the problem went away and that's all I run on my trucks now.

Could some of the wander problems be due to tires, other suspension mods, a hitch that's not set up properly or a trailer load that's not biased properly?

Just curious!

Nope, I had one. Had no problems in an 02 4x4. Was good on the road even without the rear sway bar, but who wants to just keep everything stock when you can upgrade to bigger and way better over the stock parts.
