Hello
I got a 2001 F250 Super Duty extended cab 2wheel drive V10. I just got the truck and it needs tires it currently has BF Goodrich LT265/75/16 Rugged Trail T/A. (are these tires original not sure what came with the truck new)
I am wanting a tire that is quiet on the highway but has good traction in snow. I am in Illinois and the winter can have alot of snow at times . I do tow about a 7000 pound car trailer in the summer. I was just wondering what a good reasonably priced tire would be for my truck. Any input appreciated..
Thanks Luke
Early bird is this the tire you are talking about.. Also wondering if they are really quiet on the highway.. The local goodyear quoted me 1055.88 installed.. Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor
Look at the new Nitto Dura Grappler. It is a highway tire that is suppose to have great wet tracktion. I have them on my 02 crew cab diesel and so far 3K have been very impressed. I find these tires to be very quiet on the highway.
Yup, BF Goodrich Commercial T/A traction. A bit noisy on the hwy but the price isn't bad compared to some of the other choices and we seem to be getting good treadlife out of these. The All season Hwy version of this is quieter & if memory serves me its even a few $$ cheaper. We try to run all of the same type tires on our fleet vehicles. (saves us $$ & makes tire & rim swaps between vehicles a non-issue)
We also have to follow DOT rules for tread depth so, we toss our tires a bit sooner than you'd have to. Hence our desire to not spend >1K / Truck every other year.... or so.
I'm running these on my personal trucks too (I'm the business owner) so I can take advantage of our business's volume pricing on tires. I'm getting these for about $125/tire + mount & balance. Out the door on the rim @ $138. We buy about 60 - 65 tires/year. I usually order them in sets of 32-36 at a time. Qty changes depending on how many SRW vs DRW vehicles are due for tire replacement.
I ran Nitto Terra Grapplers in LT265/75R16 on my '01 2wd V10 and was very happy with the ride and drive and traction everywhere but in deep sticky mud. I can't say a whole lot about snow, but they got along very well in the little bit we had while I was running them. They should be a little cheaper than the BFG's or Goodyear's, and I'd certainly buy them again. The Dura Grapplers look like they could be a good choice if you stay on the pavement and don't care for an AT.
I really like my BFG All Terrain TA KO's, but if I'd have had to pay for the whole set myself, I'd have gone with the Nitto's (long story).

Yes, these are EXACTLY the tires I have on BOTH of my F250 Superduties. And yes they are very QUIET at highway speeds. I do EVERYTHING with these trucks. Hunt, fish, plow snow, haul firewood, pull our horse trailer, etc. I love them!
I just wanted to let you guys know that I finally got new tires and went with the Goodyear Silent Armor and really like them alot. They are pricey but I am glad I got them. Thanks again to all that replied.
