Yeah apparently its not much that makes you need them. I got pulled over for not having any with a stock F-350 with 33's. I was pretty surprised. So I took a normal semi-truck mud flap and cut it in half horizontally and cut the bottom half of it in half vertically. Just have to weld up something to bolt it to and spray some cool logo on it with the stencil. :P
Anywhoozles. Something to think about. I'm not sure about the ticket or anything but its something to look into.
I dont really know the laws about it but I had heard through the grapevine that you have to get flaps if you are driving a DRW truck....I dont know about SRW
I have no idea what the grapevine is, nor do I have any idea what DRW and SRW mean lol. But like I said my truck isn't really that extroidanary. Looks like a lifted F-250. Just a stock F-350, 33" tires. Its my daily driver. Well, it was. Its been deemed not street legal. Small town, or else I would drive it lol.
i was told that if you can see the rear axal from the back of the vehical, you need mud flaps.Must be a hight thing from the road or something.the cops here in alberta told me that shortly after writeing the ticket lol.
and as for the mudflap laws, in AZ, you have to have them if the vehicle is modified for offroad purposes, but only if it is a truck or suv, ramchargers though are station wagons
I can see the back axle on all of my trucks. And none of them have mud flaps. Except my F-350 is getting them, but i'm putting a 460 with lower miles in it so i'm not to anxious to put them on.
These laws are different for every state I don't know about canada. My truck is not very big, My buddy has a dodge with a 5'' lift on 35's and a 78 ford with a 4'' lift on 35s, He has drop bumpers, in MN the bumpers must be under 25'' off the ground. Fender flares on the dodge because the tires can't stick out, we have no decibel law for the exaust, it is officers descretion. With a stock truck your good with straight pipes, with a lifted truck you may not get away with anytype of modified exaust. My favorite is the frame hight law, the frame must be within 6'' of its stock location, no one I know has actually been called out on this yet but it will be interesting...
It certainly does encourage massive unsafe body lifts...
Out here in the desert they wont bug ya unless the cops can tell that the truck aint stock and most of the time they dont care as long as they dont get a rock through the windshield. My highboy they wouldnt bother with cause they know its stock.
I've always heard, the mud flap needs to come down to the bottom of the axle tube and cover the width of the tire. It was also pointed out to me that that goes for the front too.
I cut down some Ford floor mats for the rear, they work but there a little soft...
I'd think that a frame height requirement would encourage body lifts, as the frame's height would not change to fit the bigger tire.
I fling mud anyways, the mud flap isnt to really stop mud but to stop rocks when im on the highway... Idk i might take them off to see what it looks like.
