ABS what years, models

Was there ABS in 91' F150s, I thought that i've seen an abs light come on in my truck before. But i sure as hell don't have it in the rear-end with my drum brakes. They'll lock up quick as s***.

All F-series trucks had rear-only ABS from 1987 to 1996. Broncos had optional four wheel ABS starting at some point, too. (93?)

Regardless of year, the system sucks. There's only one sensor, so the truck can't see which rear wheel is locking up. It pulsates both wheels.

In other words if it is bad or not working, the no point in wasting time and money trying to fixed it.

Pretty much. The ABS pump on the frame rail also likes to gum up and prevent the rear shoes from retracting, results in lots of problems. When it gets to that point, I usually tell people to just bypass the pump with a piece of brake line and pull the bulb from the dash, because, as you say, it's not worth fixing.

yep, the F-150 had rear wheel abs...that sucks some major butt

1993 Bronco had the 4 wheel abs monstrosity that tries to kill you

the only thing you have to be careful with concerning abs is the E40D tranny with the Auto-Shift Borg Warner T-case. There is an electrical circuit that queries the ABS circuit when you try to shift into 4x4.

if the ABS is fubar'd, the t-case shift circuit is not supposed to shift into 4x4 hi or 4x4 lo.

had this happen to me. my abs 4 way valve had gotten gummed up like you described and quit functioning...then the thing had the nerve to catch fire. After Ford fixed it for $106, the ABS worked again, and the 4x4 electronic shift would work

no f150 had 4wabs.

from one of many sources on 1st gen. lightening.

"The braking system used power-assisted front disc/rear drum setup with anti-lock brakes on the rear wheels only. The rotors measured 11.72 inches and the rear drums 11.03 inches x 2.25 inches wide. These brakes brought a Lightning to a halt in 143 feet from 60 mph."

With rear brakes locking up easy it sounds like either you have a problem with the rear shoes or a defective proportioning valve.

I can handle it just fine down here in GA, back home in OR it was a bit of a problem during the winter. I do plan on replacing my drums sometime, i think they're still stock.

Replacing the drums won't do a thing for your problem. Like Lazy K says, either your shoes are on wrong, bad prop valve, or your ABS valve is already clogged up.
