I used whole corn. I am also using *testing* dried molasses.
I am pleased to to say but my batch I ran last night came out with a 150 proof. Start proof was a 20 proof and ended at a 150 proof. WOOHOO for me. I found out one big thing I was doing wrong. While fermenting, I was not keeping the air out. So I went and go a bucket used to make beer and wouldn't you know it worked.
Yes you can use sugar beets. I myself have not use them. Seeing how here in NE Nevada its really hard to get that. and using straight sugar was getting a little expensive for me. so I dont do that anymore.
Unless someone wants to take me there I will stick with my corn that I can order and have delivered to my house. But yes sugar beets and If I can get some I will try it. but anyways.
A now thing I just tried was turbo yeast. I am not impressed. Yes it fermented the mash faster but I got little proof out of it. I will stick with my 5 to 6 day normal mash fermenting with normal yeast.
