Transmission leaking
I have a 96 F150 2WD with a 4.9L 300 CI engine with the E40D Automatic transmission. I replaced the filter and gasket in it the other day and accidentally overfilled it. The extra fluid seems to have ran out from the torque convertor area so all I can think of is that the Front Main Tranny seal is shot. The trans doesn't leak while driving it, however it does lose fluid once it has sat for a while. It is now running a bit on the low side according to the dipstick, and seems to be running okay. It definitely shifts smoother than it did before the filter change.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do next? I have been driving it to work but am now hauling around a 1 gallon pale, a couple of quarts of fresh tranny fluid and a funnel, just in case.

well, if you can keep the fluid level where it's supposed to be for a while then you are ok, but if it's leaking then you need to pull the tranny and replace the front pump seal. You shouldn't run it with low fluid though...
