97 heater core ?

97 heater core ?
this is my first post here and would like to say hello to everyone. this looks like an awesome forum to be a member of.
and of coarse i have a question dealing with the heater core of 97 ranger with a 4cyl.
the heater core went out in my dads ranger it has 265,XXX on it but i am replacing the core next weekend. my question is, is the heater core the same and in the same location in his 97 w/4cyl vs my 2000 w/6cyl.
and do i need to remove the dash completely or just remove the instrument panel to access the core? i have a chiltons for my year ranger and was hoping the the instructions for my truck would work on my dads.
