fuel filter

I own a 1997 F-150 crew cab and want to replace the fuel filter. I know I need a special tool to take the old filter off. Can anyone describe the tool to me and tell me where I can purchase it? Any helpful hints in the process of replacing the filter would be appreciated.

Thanks

fuel filter

There are several different styles of removal devises on the market. All look different but work the same. I own all of them. In my opinion the one made by Snap On works the best and of course costs twice as much. Most parts stores will have at least one style. Basicly they are designed to wrap around the stem on the filter and will slide into the fitting and spread the spring locks to allow the line to be pulled off the stem of the filter. I leave the filter attached to the frame until I get the lines off and then remove the filter from its retainer.

The tool is a simple thing that just clips around the fuel line and the pushes into the fuel filter. You can get them at any parts store.
