another a/c question

hi everyone looking for a little helpfil info. I have a 1998 explorer 4.oL which needs to be recharged My questions are does it take freon or 135 and how much will it take yo fill the system? appreciate any and all help !!! thanks Don.

98's take R134. You shouldn't just put more freon in unless you have the correct AC tools. If you overcharge it, you can end up with some major repairs like a blown compressor. Your owners manual should give you the capacities. If you are not sure of what you are doing, take it to a professionsal.

If you want to recharge your own AC, get a manifold gauge set, and don't plan on spending less that $60 for one (yes there are cheaper ones, but they are not well made and will probably only be good for one use.) If you don't want to spend the money to get a good set, then take it to a pro. Also, why are you asking what refrigerant it takes, it says which you need under the hood. Freon hasn't been used since '92. All the new stuff is 134a.
