It will be the same exciting action only in a different location for the 2008 Hank’s 4x4 Jamboree. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 16 and Sunday, Aug. 17 at the LaSalle Speedway on U.S. 6. This is the 21st year for the Jamboree.
On Saturday, registration will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A show ‘n shine will be held all day. Starting at 1 p.m., the truck dirt drags and quad runner dirt drags will take place, followed by the show ‘n shine cruise. The truck pulls will start at 6 p.m. with tough trucks, burn out contest, monster trucks and back-to-back pulls.
On Sunday, registration will occur from 9-11 a.m. Mud bogs will kick off at noon with quad mud bogs, monster truck racing, tough trucks, back-to-back pull championships and the show ‘n shine.
Final judging will be from 1-4 p.m. and the show ‘n shine trophy presentation is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Sunday is Family Day with children 12 and under admitted free.
Hank Walsh, organizer of the event, said the biggest change in this year’s jamboree is the location. Walsh indicated he has had 11 shows in Mendota, including nine jamborees, but there was a conflict in getting the show booked for the Tri-County Fairgrounds this year, so he was forced to move to LaSalle.
“I could not reach agreement with the fair board to have the show in Mendota,” Walsh said. “I’ve met some incredible people in Mendota and was treated well by them, and would have been back if I had gotten an agreement with the fair board. I hate to leave there, but maybe it’s for the best.
“After 20 years of doing the show, including nine in Mendota, it’s sad not to be back in Mendota. I would like to thank the Mendota people who went out of their way to treat us nicely, but there were a few people that didn’t want me to have my show there, so I had to move it.”
Walsh said he is proud to be able to put on a top-notch show, which has received special recognition locally and nationally. He said Peterson’s 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine rated Hank’s 4x4 Jamboree in the top 30 of best truck shows in the country. Also, the Illinois National Guard presented the show with the Defender of Freedom Award and the AMVETS gave a certificate of appreciation.
