Just to clear the air...I have a 65 f100 that I got the front end off of a 75 and mounted the whole assembly up to the 65...well thats all working great...but SINCE im a newbie to the old fords and the guy that pressed in the pivot bushings and king pins disassembled the brake assembly ...I never got a good look at how the brakes were put together....so I know have all these new brake parts that I need to put together and no clue as to really how they go on properly. I would be shooting in the dark...I did notice while putting on the rotors that the calipers go on a certain way...and I purchased a new brake hardware kit....well there is this funny little clip in the kit that isnt in my pile of old stuff...what the heck is it!? I figured out that the little hold down goes on and all that but there is this guide looking thing that I havent figured out...yet.. wondering if you can enlighten me on that one. its the exact length of the caliper holddown, thin, and bent slightly with ends bent inward. heck ill just post a link to the part..
I dont mean to sound ignorant...but I dont know how this needs to go back together!!! please advise with any tips and tricks and things to do and not to do. Thanks for the help
The little bent bar sits ontop of the of the larger bar that slides in under the caliper. The bend in it keeps pressure on the caliper to prevent it from rattling once it's mounted. There is a right and left caliper, just keep the bleed screws up and that sort itself out. As for the funny little clip, it clips on the end of the brake pad and keeps the pad from rattling. Have fun.
Ya, the bent clip and the block thing in the pic goes under the caliper to hold them in place. You will have to tap them in with a hammer, and if I remember correctly, I tapped them both in together.
Do you see the two half circle notches in the blocks? That's where a special bolt goes to hold the parts from sliding out.
I can get a good pic of the parts assembled if it would help... just let me know.
