That area west of Acton, north of the 14 is called Vasquez Rocks, named after an early California bad-guy who used them as a hide-out. It's a county park today, and I remember seeing them in Blazing Saddles, one of my favorites.

And yes, a lot of old westerns were filmed in the Santa Susana Mountains, too.

Vasquez Rocks named for Tubercio Vasquez, a local murderer and all around bad egg.

The park can be accessed by the Sand Canyon offramp of the 14 Freeway.

100's of commercials have also been filmed there.

Santa Susanna, Chatsworth, et al: Monogram Studios (now the home of KCET) had a movie ranch in the area, as did Republic Pictures.

Another famous western location is Beale's Cut, off (east of) San Fernando Rd near Newhall.

The cut was part of a wagon road that extended north from LA beginning in the late 1840's or so.

Scenes from Stagecoach (1939) and countless other films have been filmed there dating back to Tom Mix Productions from the 19teens.

Huell Howser just did a show on Beales's Cut.

Pop: Basset Hound Rescue (BARNI) is located in Acton. We seem to have a branch of BARNI, since we now have 5 of them.

Geez, I read the title of this thread and had to check my pulse. Scared me for a moment. I guess because they call me that at work.

One of my coworkers still has his Engineer Bill stripped railroad cap that he wears once in a while.

I never realized how much Mr. Green Jeans looked like Danny Kaye.

(interesting look on Capt. 'roos' face)

Mister Greenjeans' name was Lumpy Brannum. He also was a bass player.
