Seth...OASIS not available...this Explorer is over 10 years old.
Dang it!
Is there something comparable? I was hoping to get some more info for my neighbor who is looking at buying this truck for his daughter who just got her license. Its nice. '98 with 73k, AWD/4WD, power everything, good tire/paint, remote start, AM/FM/CD, etc. The PCM was reprogrammed in '06 according to the sticker under the hood.
Everything looks good. Asking $5995 at the stealership down the road. Just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong that we couldn't see.
You can try CARFAX to check on the history...of course that doesn't help with the mechanical aspect. I would suggest that you have an independent mechanic do a complete inspection...due your due diligence...and trust your instincts.
6K for a 98 seems pricey to me. Tell the dealer you want a Carfax report on it. Look for signs of: salvage, autions, rentals, leasing, and out of state transfers. If the dealer won't give you the Carfax, walk (run) away.
Definately have it checked by your mechanic. I bought a 98 3 years ago with a few more miles on it for the same price. 3 days after I bought it, the tranny lost 1st gear. After going rounds with the dealer, Ford's misdiagnosis, Incompetent shops and $750 out of my pocket, a total of $2000 spent, I finally got it fixed. So please have it checked out.
