I think I found the problem with my speed control(cruise) and overhead display but I need a little clarification first. I found the wire casing coming off the brake reservoir melted and the two wires insulation melted off. The only thing I can figure out is when I put in a new air filter it left them hanging and got against the manifold and melted the casing and wires. Here's where I need the help. It appears it melted at the end of the casing where the wires are just looped for some reason. One end is connected to the reservoir, which I assume is the sensor for the brake switch for the cruise, one end goes into the wiring harness and the end where it is melted doesn't appear to connect to anything. Is this correct? If so I can just repair the wires. I also see an inline fuse with a blue tag on it that says "inline fuse" I assume that's probably blown. Can someone confirm that the casing where mine has melted just terminates or should I look for more casing where it melted through and it plugs in somewhere? Thanks.
It sounds like you had a problem before the cruise TSB was taken care of. I believe that wire is hot, so there is a 12v source and a return to the PCM/GEM.
I went to the dealer today. I did have the recall done. However, mid recall Ford changed the part because the new part was also failing. I had the initial replacement part. I'm taking it back tomorrow and they are putting on the new wiring and switch free of charge. They printed the recall history on my truck and when my old dealer checked it the second time they noted it looked ok and chose not to replace the initial recall part.
