Well, Instead of getting new rims and having some spare time, I decided to buy some wax and sit out side and try to polish the rims up. I got 1 done and 2 others started and havnt touched the last one. They all looked absoluty horrible. They looked like rusting steel rims almost. Anyway, after many hours of polishing, I am getting them to look near new. They will still need to be buffed up some but look 100 times better than before. Here are a before and after pic. The front and back rims looked equally as bad if not worse than the one below. For some reason the camera made the before picture look better than it really is. Made it look a little shiny which its not. Must have been too bright outside.
And after also with new lugs
Now I got to modivate myself to wax the whole thing this week end. Ill offer free drinks to any helpers!!!
Ya, I plan on getting the mothers powerball this weekend and both batteries are charged on my power drill. I have heard nothing but good from those powerball (puff ball) things. I even waxed my rear bumper that I though would never shine and wow, I can actually see a reflection in it and it looks new!!. As you can tell, I don't wash and wax very much so I am easily impressed. When I got my first truck, my 95 chevy, I washed and waxed it every weekend for a full year, now Im lucky if I wash my trucks every 6 months. I don't think I have washed the chevy in over a year but it still looks great somehow. Must be all that wax that helped it out.
I believe they are ULTRA TYPE 02 WHEELS made in california. I looked them up and they do still sell them. And no, Not all 6 are the same. The inside rear duals are original steel rims. The outside and front rims are non-interchangeable. The unseen side of the front rims are not polished and are a rough cast as well with the back. They are bud rims so only the usable side has the tapers for these lugs. If I find the web site, I will post it for these rims.
Thanks
Actually if you would check your math, you would be paying about 3.7% of my fuel to there and at $4.2 a gallon and 14mpg I would get about 66 miles. That would pay for 1.85% of my total trip cost!!! Thats means each wheel is worth about .46% of my total trip. That also means I would have to do about 217 wheels or about 54 trucks in order to pay for my fuel at $5 a rim. I wonder how many power drills and powerballs I would go through.
i dont know if you guys have ever heard of it but its called hoosiers and its a metal polish and it does wonders on old weathered and ate up aluminum rims
I heard a guy mention that name and said that the truck stops sell it. Well, when I went to the big truck stop, I forgot what I was looking for and picked up some blue container that said mag and aluminum wheels. Now that you say it, I remember it. This stuff I got seems to be working pritty good and I am almost done. Just got done with the rim in the top pic. I bought the powerball (puff ball) and It didn't work Like I thought it would. Its too big and the holes in the rims are too sharp. I didn't tear up the puff ball but I quit before I did. Maby it will work better on something else.
Well, I finally finished polishing most of the rims and here is how well it turned out.
And heres after waxing most of the truck minus the bumper and running boards. That other guy that posted some picks and waxed his somewhat got me modivated after seeing how well his looked after a little TLC.
