Explain this transmission leak...
I've got a '73 F100 4x4 with a 390 and C6 swapped in and a 205 transfer case. My question...can anyone explain why when I park the truck and leave the transmission in neutral, it leaks buckets of tranny fluid. But when the tranny is in park it doesn't leak a drop. I've been pushing it in and out of the garage recently while working on it and I would usually just leave it in neutral and it would leak everywhere. Finally I figured out that if I put it back in park it wouldn't leak at all! Learned my lesson...I'm just curious if anyone knows why this is and if its happened to anyone else.
I've heard that when the tranny is in park, there is greater tension on the gears or something. Could this have anything to do with it?
