I had a contractor visiting in my office yesterday. He saw a picture of my Merc and said that he has a 52 Ford F-2 with a flat 6 and a 4 speed.
He told me that he had acquired the truck five years ago when he bartered some plumbing work for the truck. He said that his wife hates the truck in the yard and wants him to get rid of it. He told me that I could have it, otherwise he is going to call a salvage yard to haul it off.
He said that he drove the truck home five years ago, but it has not moved since. I assume that the body is a rusty basket case at best. He told me that it does not have a box.
I do not have room for another vehicle. My wife is not happy that I have the Merc as it is. A friend that has expressed interest in taking on an old truck as a hobby, but I am afraid this would be way beyond his abilities. I am going ask him first if he wants this vehicle, otherwise I am considering taking it and then immediatly getting rid of it to a better home than a salvage yard.
Is anyone here near the Twin Cities and interested in having second dibs on this truck?
I wish I was closer or else I'd be there in a heartbeat to get it. I'm really looking at getting a second truck to return to near original. I even have a bed for it.
I am in St Cloud and would be interested in the truck! Let me know more. I can arrange transport, etc. Let me know! I can give you my email address too and would appreciate pics, etc but I am definitely interested!

Mike, My buddy Rod and I will pick up the truck this week. I have still not seen it. Then we will decide what to do with it. Roger has first dibs after Rod, and now you have second dibs. I'll post pictures when we get it.</p>

Mike,
No word... it might end up being one of those elusive wild goose chases. The owner of the truck says that he has misplaced the title and as soon as he finds it he will call and let us pick up the truck. I have been holding my breath since Monday.
He seems like a man of his word, so I am still hopeful.
We picked up this truck yesterday evening. It is much better than anticipated. This truck is well within my friend's capabilities and he is going to keep it. I am encouraging him to join us in this forum and post a bunch of pictures.
The cab is totally solid, but the paint is worn thin and starting to surface rust. Even the floor seems to be intact. It is missing the rear window and the windshield is badly cracked.
The running boards are rusted through and badly need replacing. The box was replaced with a stake side flatbed.
With some routine work (changing the oil and plugs and putting in some fresh gas) I think this truck will start.
Good to hear you got it and it is decent shape. I hope your friend has alot of fun going through it and I would love to see some pictures posted. Sounds like it will be a great project!
