Redneck technology...

After much searching (and considerable swearing), I finally found the leak in my power steering. I've got a pinhole in one of lines.

I know that the correct solution is to replace the line...that ain't gonna happen til Friday.

Any ideas on how to "bubble gum" it for a few days?

billy mays might know how

im not sure...maybe muffler tape around the hole and seal the edges of the muffler tape??? im not to sure, i just know that with a loss of pressure/fluid the whole unit can burn up...(my first car in 95,dodge lancer, power steering unit went because i wasnt monitoring the loss of fluid) 17 years old wtf did i know about cars.

its a metal hose right??

Metal on both ends...rubber at the point it's leaking.

I too, discovered this problem via a squealing ps pump.

A buddy at work recommended some of that Lucas power steering stop leak which did silence the squeal...so I'm not sure if I've fried the pump or not.

At the moment, the car is sitting at home...I'm gonna try to live without it this week, and go purchase the replacement line this weekend...

In the meantime, I RTV'd it, and covered the hole with another section of rubber hose, and am going to put a clamp over that tonight...at least slow the leak as much as possible until I can replace the line correctly.

If it is the pressure side line, nothing will work. If not, I patched a leaking line with a piece of rubber gasket material and a hose clamp.

Well, the good news is that Autozone ordered the right part.

I picked it up last night.

I have no idea, however, when I'll have an hour to put it in...

I was going to say duct tape, it fixes anything, even NASCAR's at 200 mph.
