The wife was driving #2 son's 97 F-150 2 wheel drive to #1 son's house when she called to say that the right front brake was smokin' when she got there. I pulled the wheel and inspected it the next day and everything seemed fine. She says it was chattering when I questioned here further so I'm thinking the anti-lock was somehow getting false signals. I've driven the truck 50+ miles since and have no symptoms of any kind. Can anyone shed some light on this and what to fix. Thanks

Well, a few possiblilities. Either the caliper was hanging up, or the driver was a little rough on the brakes. I don't want to make any assumptions, so let's say the caliper was hanging up. If it was an ABS problem, the light would have come on. Buddy, let me tell ya, those lights will come on if they're in a bad mood, so it would have surely detected that. If it was a caliper locking up on ya, at the time there would have been an incredible brake pull. You wife should have mentioned this. If it's still under warranty, take it to your local dealer and have them replace that caliper. If now, wait til it fails again.

As I write this there have been no futher problems but someone told me they had a similar problem caused occassionally due to a caliper piston cocking in the bore. I know what to look for if it happens again. Thanks for the help.
