Cool 96 F-150 stalling

I have a 96 F-150 with a 4.9 liter. This truck is driving me nuts. It drives great, then out of nowhere will just die. No warning at all, acts like you just shut it off. After 10 to 15 minutes it will fire right up. It will sometimes fail to start after sitting for awhile (usually at work) and again after 10 or so minutes it will start. Have had it in a shop with no codes found. So I borrowed a friends code scanner and carried it with me. After a few days it died on the way to work the scanner picked up a code. It said something like (eng/ignition speed circuit) didn't get a number (no pen). Went out at lunch break to write the code and number down and the code wasn't on there. I haven't been driving it anymore cause sooner or later I will get stuck in the middle of traffic. Any ideas?

Most likely one of the ignition components is temporarily dieing. You can't really test these ignition components, because if they are in a live state when tested they will likely test good. I would replace the components in this order: ignition coil, ignition module, then the PIP in the distributor.
