On my LATE '99 F350 Dually the paint is flaking off the extension piece that runs from the mount to the mirror itself, I've seen several other SDs like this as well and it looks like the metal is/was galvanized originally and not primed correctly or at all.
My question is this:I want to dig into this and clean up/sand the area and re-paint and really don't know where to start....I'm thinking that the mirrors really should come off the truck... but then do they come apart somehow so I can get to the effected areas to work on them?? any suggestions as to what type of primer and paint I should use?? its going to be canned spray paint...I don't have a compressor or gun. Thanks!
my old ones were like that. I cleaned and painted them after I took them off. they looked really nice with a fresh coat. I used textured spray paint to try and match the original look. Of course, I took them off to replace with the signal mirrors so they didn't go back on.
the signal mirrors have been on for 3+ years and are showing no signs of flaking. f**d must have corrected the problem with these.
Mine did this a while back and I used a can of the Duplicolor spray in bed liner on mine. Not really a whole can but used it on the mirrors and diff cover. I took the mirrors off and disassembled them. Ended up breaking one of the smaller mirrors in the process. The large mirror comes out first btw. I haven't had any problems with them since. Except the car wash bought me a new one when it about ripped the passenger side off. But the driver side is still looking good.
