I have a 1981 F100 w 4.9L, SROD T170 and a 9" rear.
The rear is doing what it does best and is leaking out of every place it can.
I happen to have a 1989 F150 5.0, AOD, 8.8 whose rear is not only dry, it has LS.
I want to swap the 9" for the 8.8, which is pretty straight forward, if I use the E-brake cables as well.
But the driveshaft - it appears I need to shorten by about 2" as the 8.8 has a longer 'nose'.
Or, will the 89 driveshaft fit? is the over length of the AOD the same as the T170? (if so that driveshaft should bolt up) and it also begs - are the yokes from the AOD and the T170 the same or different shaft/splines?
I have not taken apart anything yet and cant seem to find documentation on the web.
