Water Pump Info

The motor is a 1990 5.0l out of a truck. To my understanding it is a reverse rotation pump. I was wanting to know if the reverse and standard rotation pumps did the same thing but by turning the other way. In other words, no matter what pump you have water comes out of intake manifold to the upper part on the radiator and then from the lower part of the radiator to the inlet on the water pump.
Thanks
John

Yes, water flows the same path regardless of the pump rotation direction, it's the serpentine belt routing that determines the pump rotation.

Ok Thanks. Its a serp. belt setup. I have a smooth water pump pully and there is no way to make the pump spin with the crank and keep power steering or A/C. I am 99% sure it is reverse rotation.

I have another question you might be able to help me with. Me and a buddy put the motor in an 85 Nissan pick up but had to put the radiator in the bed. Do you think the stock 5.0l water pump can pump the water that far? I ran the truck for a good 10 min. ( I know the thermostat opened) and the water in the Rad. wasnt even luke warm. I would run it longer but dont have a good working temp guage in it yet. ( thats what I get for buying the cheap stuff) I also think that there is a huge air bouble in the system. Could that cause a no flow problem?
Thanks
John

Yes there is, I have all that in my truck. It's routed from the alt, under the tensioner, over the AC compressor, down around the PS pump, around the bottom of the crank, up over the water pump, down around the smog pump, and back to the alt. If you don't have a smog pump you need an idler pulley down there. If you are not getting flow through the rad I bet the pump is not turning the right direction.

I think you missed under stood what I was saying or I was unclear. I have the belt ran from the alt. under tensioner, over A/C, down around P/S, over WP, under crank to alt. No smog pump need that way. My S turn from WP to Crank is the other way than yours but makes the pump spin the same way as yours (reverse rotation) When I said that there was no way to run the belt keeping PS and A/C that was trying to make the water pump turn clockwise like the crank and that would be standard rotation water pump set up. So being that I cant make it run that way It made me even more positive that I had a reverse rotation WP.

I am pretty sure that I have the pipes and the WP turnig right and that I just have a big air pocket in the system or the WP cant flow the water that far.
