I said in an earlier post I wouldn't be surprised if the 09's didn't come out until March. If I was Ford I would wait until next year to unveil the 09's.

There are at least a 100 Ford F150's on the lot near here. They can't sell them because they aren't willing to drop the price.

I can see them going to a fire sale like Dodge here in a few months. They'll have to if they want to sell them.

Ford is going to b hurting bigtime by the end of the year.

Ford is going to be hurting big time by the end of the year. That is w/o a doubt an understatement. Somebody ain't going to make it here. And I'm betting Chrysler goes first. They've already built over 900 new 09' Rams. The only problem is they have OVER 91K+ 08's that haven't been sold yet. Even with $12K off sticker.

Yep. Wait until December when they're both on the lots. Then you can compare the old new with the new new, and decide for yourself if the new new is worth the price. The dealer will have to offer a pretty sweet deal on the old 08, because he's losing money every day they're on the lot.

Pretty simple.

In this area, they've already lowered the advertised rebate and incentive program from $10,290 to $7500. I'm sure you could get the price down but I'm inclined to believe that FMC is going to really delay or stall the launch date to avoid losing too much on the '08's.

Maybe in the future they'll keep thier finger on the pulse and not overbuild. On the other hand, why doesn't FMC transfer some of the unsold units in slower markets to faster moving markets?

Wouldn't it be great if the late release would give FMC the opportunity to offer the diesel engine in the F-150 2009. That would be about the only way to move 09's which they are going to have to do to make up for the losses with the 08s. I can dream right.

How many people (% wise) do you think are going to want a diesel? Not enough to cover the '08 losses.

I will bet a lot more people than you think. It will not cover 08 losses but it would definitely boost 09 sales. Right now a small group of people are waiting on the 09 but there is another group that is not buying right now due to waiting on 2010 w/ engine options. I have considered buying an 08 this year with the incentives but I would be out that much more on my 06 Crew so I am going to wait for 2010.

Hrmm...

How many thousands of people were willing to pay $5k extra for a hybrid, when it made NO financial sense to do so! For the last 5 years, most hybrids would have to see more than 250,000 miles to recoup that investment, and people still bought into it!

How is a diesel any different? Make it get good mileage, they will come.

With diesel so much higher than gasoline right now, the projected 4.4L numbers not being drastically better than the projected 5.4L numbers, I don't know if it'll be a hot seller, at least initially. If it only gets 2-3mpgs better, I'm not sure it will be worth the added cost. It will need to increase the payload/towing ability significantly for it to be worth wild. Well, except for those that want the latest/greatest or to simply play tug-o-war with other 1/2 tons.

Just my opinion.

It does not look like Ford is going to do much stalling or delaying. They started scheduling 09's yesterday (08/14) for September production.

Initally it will be mainly retail and fleet orders scheduled so I would not expect to see too many just sitting around in dealer stock...

In addition to the cost of fuel, maybe the fact that pickups are 30-50k in price might have something to do with it. My brother is a Sales Manager with Dodge and there half price off is going very well along with the fact that somew customers are buying another used or low price car. If Ford would lower the price I would be the first to buy.

that'd be a good marketing strategy... buy an 09 at msrp and get a free leftover 08 with it essentially, both of them half off, but sell 2x as many

A dealership locally used to have promos like this all the time. Just haven't seen any recently. Remember some where if you bought and Expy or Explorer, you'd get a last model year Focus for free. They used to do this all the time back from about 2000/2001 up until recently. They may still do it, just haven't seen these advertisements lately.

They don't have this special up on their website, just checked. But if anyone is interested in the dealership, here it is.
