Front sway bar links?

Front sway bar links?
Trying to diagnose a front end sound on my 1998 2WD Ranger. When backing up and turning left, a 'pop' sound comes from the front right wheel / suspension. This sound won't happen repeatedly, just once, and it also doesn't happen when turning right and backing up. I just replaced the front right ball joints because they were worn (left were replaced a couple years ago), and the sound is still there.
Am I right in thinking the sway bar link might be the problem? If it is worn, then it might bind and then pop into place??

After I posted I remembered that the sway bar links were actually replaced a couple of years ago. I checked them out last night also, and they look to be in good condition - no cracks and bushings look solid. Could this 'pop' sound also be caused by a tie rod end? If the tie rod ends were worn out they could bind and pop also.
