I am having an issue with my 99 V10 automatic. It has 50,000 original miles and has been babied. Why pulling my travel trailer last weekend, while pulling a steep hill in second gear, I hear this knocking/rattling developing. When I let off the gas the noise goes away. Get back on the gas, it starts again. I thought it was pinging but seems to be more of a knocking noise. There is also a loss of power as that same hill I could normally pull at 50-60 with the trailer had me down to 40 mph.
At idle, or revving the engine while in park, or while just cruising down the road, there is no noise and is totally quiet. Get on the gas or pull a hill and the noise is there. It almost sounds like it is lugging or bunch of bees are under the hood! It sounds to me to be coming from the driver's side, but who knows with the way sounds bounce around.
feels like a cop do you have access to a code reader?
I bet you a buffalo nickle that buzzing sound is your egr valve, pull it out while the engine is running and put your finger on it covering the whole if it stops... time for a new egr though the egr is not the cause of your sudden loss of power.

sorry had a brain fart what I meant was pcv valve NOT EGR
Well today it finally threw a code. I will have it checked out and find out what code is.
I am wondering if the Cat is plugged as it sounds like an exhaust leak in a way: really buzzing and/or sort of chugging. Would a plugged Cat cause the check engine light to go on?
As for the plugs, with the low miles and the fact that there is no engine miss, they have never been changed. Is there a chance they could have loosened since being torqued at the factory? If they are loose, what is the torque for the 1999 V10 plugs? I want to make sure I do not over torque them.
Nope, but I do have that as well. I did a search and can not see how that is being fixed either. I should probably start another thread for that after I get this problem figured out first.

Thanks
The spark plug torque specs for '99-'04 V10 2v engines is 168 in/lbs or 14 ft/lbs.
Good luck...and do post the code...so we can help with that too.
I just wanted to get back to everyone just in case this happens to someone else.
The trouble turned out to be the hose to the DPFE sensor had a hole in it. After I posted this thread, it actually blew/came right off! I had it scanned and it came back as the DPFE sensor hose!
A couple of new hoses and everything is back to normal! It is unbelievable how much noise that hose or should I say missing hose made! The mechanic said that it would also cause a power loss which what I did experience as well!
Sorry about this, may be a dumb question. Do you guys have an EGR on your V10s. I have an 01 and live in So. CA and mine does not. If some do come with and EGR and some don't, does anyone know why? Hope this doesn't waste too much of your time.

What does the DPFE sensor do? What does it stand for? And where is it located?
DPFE sensor is the differential pressure feedback EGR system monitor. It is there to check on the EGR flow characteristics to make sure it is operating correctly.
