a/c clutch

'96 f150 5.0
the a/c clutch engages for only a second then stops again. maybe every 15 seconds it will engage again. this isn't normal, right?

also, the clutch will engage fine with the engine off and the key on. so I guess the clutch is fine. is there any reason why the computer would disengage the clutch?

You are low on R134a and the the clutch is being cycled by the low pressure switch and not the computer.
If you let it run this way it will take out the clutch.
