need some help

hey everybody, im new to this whole forum thing but i cant seem to find any help from any of these shops or junkyards or mechanics around here , so i finally decided to join one, here it goes, ive got a 1969 ford f-100 lwb 2 wheel drive with a 360 v8 and what must be a c-6 transmission behind it, it used to be a 3 on the tree transmisson but i guess the previous owner either A- blew it up, b- couldnt drive stick, c- figured it would be a better buy when he was selling it, or d it just quit and the c-6 was all he could find in this area that would fit. Anyway i just hapenned to come across a similar truck thats 4 wheel drive, that truck has a NP (new process) 435 standard transmission in it. what i was wondering is this, is the forward driveshaft going to have to be changed and will the one out of the 4 wheel drive truck work, will it fit into the carrier bearing. i just want to be sure before i go and spend my cash on it, now, it looks like the mounts will fit, the ones from the gearbox to the crossmemeber that is, i know the crossmembers wont fit the 2 and 4 wheel drive frames are different let alone the crossmembers. anyway any help i can get on this would be great and also any alteritaves that i could use to switch my front drums to discs without having to pay 1000 for a coversion kit would be great thanks

Are you trying to put your truck back to a manual instead of an auto?

yep

yeah i like the standard better than the auto, and, with it being a 360fe v8, mpg sucks. From what i know mpg sucks even worse with an auto plus a standard gearbox is easier to rebuild, most of the time they are lighter too. id love to put a borg warner t-18 in it, and i know where to get one, but, the bellhousing is for a straight 6 and i doubt it'll fit, with the t-18 though, i dont think ill have to change the forward driveshaft at all and it should bolt right up to the crossmemeber.

the bell housing off the straight 6 wont fit but it is removable from the np case so you need to find a bell housing, flywheel etc from the same series engine. You will also need to find a tail shaft from a 2wd truck with the np435 in it. The tail shaft on the 4wd truck bolts right to the tcase but im pretty sure the output shaft is the same between the two. They used it in 2wd 250s a lot i believe. Now i cant remember if the flywheel/crank need to be paired, some motors were balanced with the flywheel, but that might have been another series block im thinking of.

keep in mind the 1st in the np435 is 6.6:1. I have one in a bronco with the 300 I6 and 1st is rarely used(also its unsyncronized).

I dont know this for sure about the 67-72 trucks but i believe the later trucks use the same frame rails but the cross memeber differs between 2wd and 4wd. as far as i knew the actual frame only changed from 150 to 250 to 350etc.

im not sure i followed your question about the drive shaft. are you trying to make your truck 4wd or are you just going to a manual?

The only difference between a 360 and a 390 flywheel is the size of the clutch.

360 flywheel (same as the 352) uses an 11" clutch on a 12 3/8" bolt circle.

390 flywheel uses an 11 1/2" clutch on a 12 7/8" bolt circle.

352/360 flywheel used 1965/76 F100/350 / same 352 flywheel used 1965/67 on cars.

The 390 flywheel was used 1968/76 on F100/350's / 1965/71 on cars.

im just putting the manual in, not switchng to 4wd, i like my 2wd i prefer it cuz i want a nice street truck. just to make sure, you do know that the transfer case is divorced on 67-72 trucks right? i just want to know if the driveshaft that comes out from the back of the transmission and goes to the carrier bearing will need to be changed, or if the one i got now which is currently pluged into the back of my c6 automatic will work. i was only curious as to weather i could use the one off the 4wd truck if the driveshaft i got now doesnt work, and i have a bellhousing thatll fit the np up to the 360, the only reason i wanted to know if the straight 6 bellhousing would work is because i know where theres one with a t-18 bolted to it and i think if i put the t-18 in, i wont have to change the forward driveshaft thanks for all your replys by the way im just so sick of going from shop to shop with no answers thanks!
