temp gauge wires
i'm wanting to hook my factry temp gauge back up in my 78 4x4 and was wondering what wire goes to it, the guy i bought it from put an african engineered aftermarket setup in it so i know i'll need a sender but i think he also cut the wires to it too, it should be on the front of the block right? its a 351m also is it a red wire that goes to it? i think i can see where he cut it but not sure

The temp. sending unit should be on the front of the block, passenger side near the thermostat housing on a 351M. I can't tell you the wire color, but take a look at the wire you think is the correct one and see if it's hot. If it barely has any voltage on it with they key in run, ground the end of the wire and see if it makes the temperature needle in the dash swing. If it does, that was probably the factory sending unit wire.
I recommend ditching the factory temperature gauge anyway, and installing a mechanical aftermarket temperature gauge because it will be much more accurate. I definitely would not trust my engine to a 30 year old factory gauge.
