Hey, I've always had a problem w/ my side mirrors shaking like crazy when I'm going down the highway on my old '79. I saw a truck once that looked like the owner had replaced his w/ some mirrors from a 90's model F-150.
Has anyone here ever done this? If so, maybe you could point me in the direction of some photos or just gimme some advice. Thanks in advance.
I want to second Bob's q... My 'original style' side mirrors shake too, and really aren't as good for true, functional use as a more modern design (convex/power).. Not trying to hijack Bob here, but I'll go a step further and ask if anyone's adapted late-model extendable (towing) type mirrors to a dentside? I've narrowed it down to the new Chevy HD tow mirrors (these will eat into my wing window surface area.. a bit of a compromise and a bit of fabbing required), or maybe even Hummer H2 mirrors if I had to (these aren't extendable, but the mounting surface is the door side, not the wing window triangle). Any ideas or pics so Bob and the rest of us don't reinvent the mirror here ;-)
I think I like the ones on projectbad 78's truck the best. Are those manually adjusted mirrors, or did you also upgrade to power ones? Looks like you did a pretty seamless job in the photo there, nice work.
thanx bob, they are power, i have yet to hook that up yet...the only downfall is that where i put them, i cant open my wing window, but they can be moved when i get better doors
Yeah these ones look good on our trucks. They "update" our looks just slightly without conflicting with the overall "older" style of the truck.
These actually stick out away from the body even more than my stock ones so I can see better. Plus they fold into the body when you need to get through a tight space
Mine are not power, but I believe they had a power option in the same shape/style.
Also - they had a couple color options. The ones in the pic are chrome (obviously), mine are black, and some of them have the front (where the chrome is in the pic) painted to match the body color of the truck.
Found that those on the silver truck above are '92-'97... they seem to run about $40 per side for power mirrors.. haven't sought a source for the power mirror switch yet..
