propper petronix
Im buying a petronix unit for my 64 292. The question is do I get the 54-57 y block or do I get the (1281) 58-74 unit. any help would be great.
Thanks.

You want the 1957 up Pertronix. 1954-56 has a different distributor. Hope that helps you.

y-blockhead, what do you think about the Pertronix I vs. II? Just curious. It seems to me that the II with the higher volts would only be more beneficial than the I at very high rpms?

Mike, I don't have any experiance with the Pertronix II. I use the Pertronix I as a trigger for my MSD 6A so the higher voltage doesn't matter. The MSD 6A is controlling the multiple spark from the coil. Hope that makes sense??

flipklos, I bought the #1281 Pertronix Ignitor I unit along with a Flamethrower coil for my '64 292 and I can certainly say that that was one of the best $100 spent on the truck so far... Electronic ignition coupled with headers and a tuned carb helped out the engine quite a bit!

Other than easier starting is it worth annything in mpg. I got one (petronix) in a 300 so Im a fan but, determining mpg on it is a bit tricky due to its trash hauler status.
