I sold my last Bronco project almost a year ago and it's eating me up. The guy I sold it to drove it from Texas back to North Carolina and after 5-6 months sold it again. I am searching for a new project. Unfortunately rust free, low mileage Bronco's have become "Gold Plated" even with gas prices as high as they are now. I found a wrecked late model Cobra donor car and would like to do an powertrain swap into a 95-96 model. I think it will be a lot less work and fabricating than the Power Stroke conversion I did a couple of years ago. Any other ideas for a new project?
Yep, mine was the Black one. 6.0L PSD. You can't miss it the innercooler shines through the grill. I thought it looked cool so I never painted it black.
Okay, I found a 1996 that appears to be prime for my next project. It is a white Eddie Bauer (loaded) with 44K miles. Low miles yes but the motor is history! Maybe the tranny also. It seems that an ice bag got trapped on the grill while they were driving from Beaver, Ok to Paris, TX. It overheated to shut down near Shawnee, OK and had to be towed the rest of the way. It has been sitting in an equipment storage building since July of 2003. I got pictures from them last night and it looks great as far as the interior and sheet metal. She says it won't crank even if you jump it. I PayPal'd them a deposit and will check it out Saturday with trailer ready for transport. 3V 5.4 motor and F250 auto/manual transfer tranny sounds like the perfect swap.
I got it! Took it over to the detail shop yesterday after we removed the engine and tranny/transfer case. They are steaming everything and cleaning the interior. The paint looks fine but they are going to give it the wet sand buff treatment anyway. I will be picking up the new powertrain next week. Then the measuring etc, will begin. Oh yeah then there's this ECM programming thing!
