F-600 Axle Code

I've purchased a 1988 F-600 with a 370, 5 speed, flatbed dump with 8.25X20 tires on 5 lug Bud wheels.
I'm trying to figure out what the rear axle capacity is. The code after the VIN# 1FDNF60H0JVA32590 is 9M which I think is the axle code but I'm not sure. Before somebody say's look inside the door jam the vehicle tag has no data on it.I think when the truck was repainted they wiped over it with lacquer thinner and removed all the info.
My registration say's 14,000 gvw, but this last weekend I was hauling gravel and went over the scales at 16,000 with no problem
The only reason I question is that I still had 1" of clearance before the over load springs would touch.

Anybody got any ideas?

9M isn't the AXLE code. It's most likely the weight capacity of the front axle: 9,000 lbs.

The AXLE code will be three digits. The first two = rear axle, the third = front axle.

The AXLE code was on the metal Warranty Plate, riveted on the left door face below the latch (second line-far right), or on the white plastic Certification Label located (usually) on the door post (B pillar).

Another way to get the code...there's a metal tag on the rear axle itself...it will have coded numbers on it. I can decode them. This will give you the ratio and the axle capacity.

If the code can't be found, contact Ed @ FTEpartsguy.com (Parr Ford in Bremerton WA), give him your trucks 17 digit VIN number.

He can look up that VIN, from that, he can give you the info. The code isn't in the VIN itself, but dealers have a way of getting the code from the VIN number.

btw: GVW really means this: GVWR = Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. The weight of the cargo, the truck itself, the driver and any passengers should not exceed the GVWR for safety reasons.

Ford voided the warranty if the GVWR was exceeded.

Wow thanks for the quick reply. I edited my post to include the VIN# and went out a got the rest of the numbers off the alumimum plate on the door jamb. They are 04-88 then 74.
The tag on the rear is:
Rockwell
RS15120NFNN 1
Serial#& Assembly plant NKA88023856
Ratio 586 Date 0968801

I just wanted to make sure what the GVWR really is, not go by the DMV registration. Our DMV isn't alway right here in WA. They were trying to tell me my motorcycle weights 1340lbs. and since they tax you by the pound I think they were looking for a little extra.
