I was leaving for work yesterday morning about 0130. I was on a lightly travelled residential road and came to an intersection with a yeild sign.
I slowed down and did a quck look, not expecting any traffic. Low and behold, here comes a Honda Accord backing up the road. I hit the brakes and stop, with my nose in the intersection.
She's not stopping so I back up and get out of her way. She backs up over the curb, just missing a street sign. The headlights of my '06 Supercrew are shining right in her eyes. She looks at me and screams something.
I called 911. It must have been a slow night because about 1 minute later, here came a cruiser. I pointed out the driveway she pulled into and the officer asks me to wait and pulls in behind her. His backup showed up and they pull her out of the car.
5 minutes later he comes back to my truck and tells me "She's hammered, booze and pills. She was behind the wheel with the engine running, she's toast. Thanks for the call"
2nd one this year for me. Some lady high on Vicoden almost T Boned my van last February.
Thanks for doing everyone a service and helping save lives.
I have a niece who will drink and drive, her father (my brother) and I have both told her we would call and turn her in if we know about her driving while drinking.
I NEVER hesitate to dial 911 while following or observing "under the influence" driving behavior. Local cops act like they appreciate it and it makes me feel like I've done something positive....maybe even saved a life.
Not in my case.
I was told, "someone will respond when they can", meanwhile drunky is swerving across 3 lanes of traffic.
But apparently that wasn't much of a concern to the cops.
Reminds me of the time I was behind this drunk in a beat up Chevy truck that was weaving back and forth on the expressway. I called 911 and remained a short distance behind him, with my flashers on to alert other drivers. A cop comes flying around me and pulls him over, I pulled over behind the cop. The guy was so drunk the cop had to help him out of the truck, I then noticed he had his cowboy boots on the wrong feet! The cop thanked me and said that guy would have never made it through the upcoming toll booth without crashing into the concrete lane dividers.
Some people's lives are touched in small ways with drunk driving. Some just observe it. Some are impacted with it by fender-benders. Then there are others that are affected by it in big ways. My dad was killed by a drunk driver when he was 46. I was 19. That was in 1980. He never met my wife or his grandchildren. By the way, my dad was driving a '73 Ford Ranger XLT back when Rangers were still full size.
yeh my cousin was killed in 98 while riding with a drunk driver. she was like a sister to me. and since then that ******* has gotten out of jail and never once said sorry to any of our family
Its scary out there some people will never learn. Always be the defensive driver. Thats how I was brought up. To everyone please be careful and safe on the roads.
