Ok guys I couldnt find my older post with my other wiring problems but heres a new one. I have a 66 F-100 Camper Special, Custom Cab and I bought a painless wiring harness and I am installing it slowly because i know nothing about wiring. I've got a two questions right now on my truck do i have an ballast resistor? Now this wiring harness has the option of using a ballast resistor. What does a ballast resistor do and what are the benifits or drawbacks of having one? If you guys have any other helpfull hints that would be great to?
The resistor on the ignition system {b]LOWERS[/b[ the electrical current moving through it.
A Hydraulic/electric brake controller has a built in resistor to increase/decrease electrical flow to the brakes for lessen the Jamming on of them.As opposed to a nice steady change of eletrical flow.
Does your have one on the trailer connector?
Dunno, have a look near you master cylinder while I look in my Ford Illustrated/Parts guide.
The ballast resistor is used on the ignition system. For starting the engine the resistor is bypassed to give the ignition coil full voltage for a hotter spark. When the key is returned to the run position the resistor is put back in the circuit to decrease the voltage to the ignition coil. If you have an ignition coil designed for a ballast resistor and don't use one the coil will burn up. I don't know if your year truck used one or not.
