Hello hows everybody doing. I dont know if this is the right forum to post this in but here goes. I just got some new spark plug wires. Ive been trying to put the ends on that go in to the dustributor an then the rubber boot. But what a pain that is. I for the life off me cant get the rubber boot to go over the steel prongs. I was wondering if I could lubricate it some way to make it fit on there easier. There must be an easier way to do this. Im just not doing it right I guess. Can anybody give some tips or pointers on how to do this. Thanks for any suggestions in advance. Hope you guys can help me out Thanks for your time
I always buy the pre made sets, but before I'd just get out the dish soap and put a little on the wire. The dielectric(sp?) grease would probably be better though.
Yeah dielectric grease or sparkplug grease will really help and the next time you have to remove the wires it will be much easier. A tiny tube will last you for years. Just a dab will do, don't gob it on.
In a pinch alcohol will make the rubber more slippery and it will evapaorate away. Soap is not so good since it is mildly corrosive and can leave a gummy residue.
Are you putting the metal ends on the wire? If so, put the boots on first. Nothing slicker than silicone spray. I keep a can for anything that has to slide thru rubber/plastic. Local hardware has it.jd
