Ive just removed the old plastic emblems from my full sized 1988 Bronco. The emblems them selves came off fine, but im left with a thick black residue. It isnt sticky like glue, just rough and dry. Ive tried scrapping it off but after nicking the paint in one spot I dont want to try that again. Right now I have Goo-Off soaking in on the one side and WD40 on the other. I just read on another site to try using a credit card instead of a scrapper because it wont dig into the paint as far.

I was just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions or if anyone had removed these and knows exactly how to get the gunk off.

Passenger side, ive used Goo-Off and a rag, it hasnt gotten me far
Attempting to show the thickness. Hard to see it in the picture. Its about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch thick

 

3 M makes a tool to add to a drill called a stripe eraser ...

Works well...your biggest problem ,,,looks like the emblems have been painted around ,,hope you are putting on new ones...

 

A hair dryer will work to soften up the old double sided tape residue, use a plastic putty knife to scrap it off.
