My truck had troubles starting the other day but if finally fired up. But it had very slow foot pedal response then I stopped at Super Target. It would not fire up after that. I had it towed in and they could not find a problem initially but said my batteries needed replacing. They (local Ford dealer) replaced the batteries and said come pick it up. Then they called back saying I needed to replace my alternator as there was some electical spiking and that might of caused my batteries to go out. They will replace the alternator for 178. That is the cost of the alternator and they will not charge me labor. I'm think about running the truck for several weeks then replace the alternator on my own. Has anyone replaced the alternator and is it a pain?
Sounds like that is a good deal on new alternator and replacement especially on a diesel. No alternator problems yet but new batteries secondary to no start.

It is actually really easy to replace. It took me almost 15 minutes.
My only question is: $178 is the price of the alternator? Usually the rebuilt-ones cost like $200, the Motorcraft is over $500.
I bought a rebuilt 200A HO alternator on ebay for $165+shipping, but the buy it now was like $260 on it. So the dealer price looks unexpectedly low.
A rebuilt one at the dealership is 200 dollars. But they reduce the price to 178.00. Not a bad deal then. They are trying to reconcile a bad experience with their bodyshop is why there are giving me a good deal. That is another story....
