4x4 control arm/ spindle question

hey guys, my g/f has an 01 f150 4x4 that she got recently.......i had to do the front brakes today and on the second side that i was doing, i noticed that i could move the spindle up and down about 1/2" i would say.... i looked and the slack was at the bottom where the spindle and control arm are joined, is this normal? it was too late to see if the other side would move too

Sounds like bad ball joints to me. Good luck!

That looks like the lower ball joint to me. Where is it that you get the movement? Jack up the truck under the lower control arm so that the wheel is off the ground a few inches. Then slide a two by four under the tire and lift while someone else is looking at the movement. If the 1/2" movement is right there, then the ball joint needs to be replaced. Good luck!
