Okay I need some Ford know how here guys, I am currently restoring a 1978 Bronco. We'll be dropping a 1996 351w efi into the old girl followed by an old AOD style transmission then my original NP205 t-case. The question is we need the computer to recognize vehicle ground speed how ever in 1996 they used the speed sensor in the rear diff what I'd like to know is a work around so that I can use the older style odemeter cable with the attached speed sensor in my NP205 T-case instead, yes the cable bolts right on and in fact it spins the odometer cable, I need to find a way to attach the speed sensor to the wiring harness so the computer will recognize vehicle ground speed. Thanks in advance guys ......
Some of the ealier mustangs tbirds and crown vics used a vss that had a through cable for the speedo you maybe able to adapt this to your system it is EEC IV right? I know a 86 5.0 mustang I had this set up
Eric
All i saw on the speedo cable was a place to plug in the sensor cable from the harness to the odometer cable at the T-case. As far as I know all I need is work around for the computer to read the vehicle ground speed via the T-case speed sensor as they did in 1995 instead of the rear end diff as they started doing in 1996.
EEC IV is the type of engine electronic system in 94 the 5.0 switched to a the EEC V or the next generation but I think the 5.8 stayed with the EEC IV until they stopped making 5.8
I am curently converting my 1978 F-100 with a 1984 351 Windsor block over to EFI from a 1994 Bronco. I have a 1996 computer with wiring harness from a 1997 Explorer. I also have the EDIS-8 coil pack ignition from the Explorer. I think I bit off a huge chunk. I also am using parts from a 1989 f-150 that I parted out (5.0 EFI). It had both speed sensors in it, one between the speedo cable and one on the rear diff. I am going to wire in the one on the speedo cable. Everything I have read indicated that either source is sufficent for the computer. I have about half of the wiring done at this time. I have also converted over to a serpentine belt setup. Hopefully I will have it running in a few weeks. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions. I know it all sounds crazy, but what fun would it be otherwise. Happy Motoring - Brent
After much research hear is what I have found. 5.8L had eec 5 in 1995 and 1996. I have a 1996 GIN3 computer in my truck. The rear diff speed sensor is for RABS. The speedometer cable one is for VSS and cruise control. I Tried to fire the truck up on sunday with no luck. I had some fuel pump issues. Got them fixed now lots of fuel at the rail. I checked the plugs lots of spark. BUt at the wrong time. I need to dig into the setup of my trigger wheel/firing order..Hopefully it is something simple. Happy Motoring - Brent
