I know it's pob been asked a mil times but, how do I diagnose if it's a coil or plug and how do I find which one?
I also have a dip stick going bad (Rusting at the manifold) is that something I can fix myself? I did find where it goes into the oil pan. kinda tight spot.
2003 F-250 V-10 127,000 miles
So far I have replaced the steering box, Tranny pan, the tensioner pulley arm.
First prob with motor. any suggestion appreciated.

The easiest way is with a OBDII scanner. Even though the CEL doesn't show up you'll still get misfire readings from the PCM. If you don't have one I know Advanced Auto will loan you a scanner that show the cylinder that is misfiring.
Also if you have a replacement coil you can play the old swap-a-coil game. Take out an old coil put in a new one and go for a drive. If the problem goes away that was the bad coil. If you still have a problem take out the next coil out and replace it with the coil you just removed. Go for a drive... You get the idea. Of course if you have two or more bad coils then you'll pretty much have to use a scanner to locate the coils or you'll go insane trying to find the bad coil.
Thanks, I'll try the scanner first. How far can I safely drive with this skipping?
I know my fuel millage is suffering.
How hard is it to get the dip stick tube out of the oil pan? Anyone else replace one of these?
Later and thanks for the tips.
You shouldn't cause any damage driving with a mis-firing coil (if indeed that is the problem) since the coil is not firing at all you'll just blow the unburnt gas out the exhaust. So there really is no limit on how far you can drive it but it's best to get it fixed asap.
As far as the dip stick tube I never replaced one so hopefully someone with some experience with that will come along and offer some advise.
