Buying a PSD

A guide to all those stupid questions you get asked when you tell somebody your buying a diesel.

Okay, It's really not a guide. I'm more or less looking for all those "dumbazz" questions you get about why you have a diesel.

I can't personally wait till I get one. I'm just begging people to buy my motorcycle so I can fund this adventure and start it off right. Mine as well haul stuff with it to recoup costs and put more parts on it as well. *shrugs* works for Ron. =)

I tell people that I can't wait to buy a diesel, they always respond with "Why the hell would you want to pay 4.80 a gallon?"
I always look at them and go "Wow, I wish I was going to pay that much for fuel."

Or you get the "What would you use a diesel truck for?"
To haul stuff. DUH!
And because they are RAD!!!!!
Booya

Deep down in side there are other reasons not relating to any compensation for anything else.
But more of a community thing.
In any of the other forums on FTE here, people just are NOT like you guys. It's like were all a big bunch of buddies. Were all for the benefit of our culture (OBS PSD!)
This truly Draws me to wanting a PSD that much sooner, so my answers are not just knowledge based when I help somebody, but based in real life where I've done it myself, and I'm not just repeating somebody else.

Kind of like a group of muscle car enthusiasts. But were not all out here trying to show how big our skcoc (backwards) are.

The guini pig is playing in his new Newspaper TP. hehe. It's so cute.

The Ability to run and make alternative fuels for my truck excites me to no end. What kind of crazy Idea's can I come up with on a budget?
What can I change on my truck with a few things lying around the garage and the change dangling in my pocket?
Gas trucks just, well, cannot compare.
Yea. there are things you can do, I've done them, I've spent a few dollars on my gasser, and you know what? It just makes me want a PSD that much more (f-in spark plugs **** me off)
No more distributor cap, no more plug wire crossover spark. No more gapping old plugs again cause I cannot afford new ones.

The only thing that really irritates me about moving to a OBS PSD is that the people who are selling these trucks want way way way way way to much!!!!
My god people. your truck is NOT worth 15k unless its got like 20k miles on it!!
I can go buy a 2000 for 12k!
No, I am sorry that 5k worth of mods you dumped into your truck does not increase your value one bit!
I cannot charge an extra 100 dollars for every screw I sunk into my truck to stop rattles (they drive me insane!)

Oh by the way,
Anyone want to trade a stock shifter **** for this damn 8-ball that my PO put on? I still hate this f-in thing.
Heavy shifter ***** pull on your linkage.
That baby will pop outa 5th if you hit the right bump.
Okay, so you wont want to trade after hearing that. But, uh. =) Yea, Trade me. haha

So, what kinda fun questions or irritating questions do you guys get about owning a diesel?

If you can't afford spark plugs, wait until an injector fails. Even a set of glow plugs is cheap at $50. I love my PSD too, but they aren't cheap to own that's for sure. 2 big honkin' batteries, $40 oil change (and thats cheap), plus all the stuff you just have to have- chip, exhaust, intake, gauges...
OBS trucks are really popular, so a lot of guys think they are made of gold. I can get you a 97 F350 crew cab auto 4x4 for $9K I think (I'm sure he still has it)...

Well Im with you Brother,
My 60 Ford F100 with its built Big Block is up for sale with specific intent of purchasing a PSD, your right about the price going up with the mods, Hell give me a bone stock SD and Ill modify the truck if I want too. XLT package is really all I need. Looking at a 94.5 PSD CC LB 4x4, guy wants 12K because of lift kit and fancy rims & tires, Im like thats way over book, he's like I know but I got this and that. Well, im working with him right now, wont know till this weekend if we got a deal, but am getting pretty excited about it none the less. I love Big Trucks and I have owned Ford F150's my whole life, the PSD to me is just going to the ultimate truck, I'm going to feel like Tony Soprano did cruising his Caddillac Escalade!

Rat Rod- I could get you a 94.5 F350 crew cab 4x4, stick shift with recent paint, 170K-ish miles for around $5500. I'm sure the truck is still around, only trouble is I'm quite a ways north of you.

I have an 02 crew cab 4X4, 7.3. It's my car I tell people.

Why did you buy that? Cause I could afford it! It has plenty of seating room, large trunk, and massive towing capability, if needed.

You know, that thing puts out a lot of polution? Yeah, it helps the plants breath easier. Besides, it looks cool when passing a rice burner!

Where do you park that thing? Wherever I want to.(my crew cab has the full size bed too)

I really don't get too many comments about my truck. There is nothing fancy about it as far as paint or tires. Both are standard on the truck.

they say "why such a big truck" answer "ya never know when yoll need it"
"why such big stacks" "cause it breathes easyer"
"are you subsituting for something?" "yes, yes i am"
i hate how everyone always buys short bed or step side crap i feal it totally defeats the purpose of a truck but that is just my .02

Stepsides are cool
I tottaly dig my dads flareside, it looks really sharp.
The older ones are pretty gay though.

Short beds are a POS.
But, i showed up the chebby at the farm cause I have a shorter wheel base then him.
He coudln't climb the pile of gravel cause he framed out, i just hoped right up there the first few times in 4x4.
I figured out later I didn't need 4wheeldrive.
He dug out the other side with the loader to move some gravel, and i just drove over it the next time. hahaha.

if i get a PSD, it has to be a long bed though. I hate my short bed for everything except the fact that the truck is short.
I dont think i'll be able to sell it.
I guess it will be a trail truck. =\
It does good right now, just gotta get the water issue figured out.
Thats for another thread another time though.

yeah for me i wanted short wheel base for off roadin so i got a couple of jeeps. personally i think the main purpose of a truck is to tow/haul stuff (payload) but just my opinion i also think the stepsides and short beds look funny to me
