Hi all, well its time to replace the stock muffler on my 2002 F-150 Crew. What I'm looking for is a good economical muffler that will allow a few gains in power and mileage if that is possible. Not looking for a complete system just a good muffler that I can put on myself. I already have a cold air intake kit and would like to make it more efficient by installing a better flowing muffler. And a bit better sound would be nice. Any Ideas?
I have the flowmaster super 44 and it sounds good, not very lound because i still have the 2 main stock cats but it has a deep rumble to it when you get on it. cant hear it at idle unless your next to the passenger rear tire, and just a tiny bit of exhaust resonance in the truck at 1700 RPM's. i think its a great muffler and its not going to break the bank doing it yourself
If your looking to match the intake the best way to go would be no muffler. I did it on my truck and its not nearly as loud as you would think. However i also have my pipes ran out behind the rear tires.
Otherwise i would look into flowmaster like everyone says. They make really good reliable products. the super 44 is a good free flowing quieter muffler and the 40 series is a good performance muffler with a liitle bit of noise but not over powering.
My straight pipes with the windows rolled up i cant even hear unless i mash the throttle and it is the most free flowing you can get.
