The downside of painless is that you have to use your old connections to things like headlights. They are just some generic wiring setup. I've never seen a real wiring system for these trucks.
I made my own by finding nice ends at the junk yard and then buying the wire and making my own. It's a bit of work but it's cheap and works excellent. I bought some trailer hook wire from the parts house that had 4 wires and it worked perfect for the entire rear.
I've never rewired my '79 Bronco, but when I fried the wiring harness in my '71 Mach 1, I didn't think twice about pulling the entire interior out to replace it. I know how ominous this task might sound, but trust me, it's really not too bad. I had a friend help me pull out the seats, dash, and anything in the way. We removed the entire wiring harness from the interior and laid it out on a large table. We cut out the burnt wiring and replaced it with heavy duty 12 gauge stuff and wrapped the whole thing back together with high quality 3M black tape. It's never worked better and best of all, it only took about 4 hours total!
Items to note: Sodder connections as opposed to butt-splicing them... soddered connections will hold up better in the long run (don't want to be pulling that sucker out again). Take your time. Better done right the first time than the alternative.
